A spaceship for my brain

Doom and I celebrated being married for 2 months at a Greek food festival (mostly we were trying to forget the stress of this semester!)

Earrings I bought from one of the vendors at the fest.
Art, I miss you, stay with me, don't go....

I apologize for my lack of blogging. Not only to any readers I might happen to have (har har) but to myself. I need a spaceship for my brain sometimes, something to take me out of this hectic life of breathless panic.
I should post more. It gives my right brain satisfaction and gives my imagination substance.

DIY Wedding Invitations

The supplies: shimmery aqua-colored scrapbook paper, cream cardstock paper, little fabric flowers in shades of aqua, bird stamp, gold stamp ink, glue stick, liquid glue, pattern paper cutter, pattern scissors. Additional resources: dafont.com fonts! :D
Cost: Approx. $50! But a lot of what I bought turned out to be more than we needed so you could easily go under $50.

First we stamped the cream paper with golden birdies, then we sent it through the printer with the text repeated 4x per page
The final result! Now, I must say, the pattern paper cutter thing was very difficult to use at first, it took  me a long time to get used to using it. There is a lot of variation in my invitations! The sizes vary, the pattern varies (in many of them we only paper-cut the vertical sides, instead of all 4 sides) and the amount of flowers varies too.

Thing's I've accomplished this spring break (part 2)

So I have school tomorrow, and I'm gonna suck it up and not be baby about it. Or at least I'll try. The funny thing is I haven't been able to sleep in late since my dogs wake me up early, so hopefully waking up won't be difficult for me.
Unfortunately, I have not finished my painting like I was hoping. But it is a BIG canvas, so I'm not too disappointed. I have been working on it though!
Slooowly gettin' there
I've also been playing Skyrim, and to answer Blogadog's question: No, I don't usually play games at all, I just watch Doom play. He has a PS3.
But I'm glad I did play this spring break because it was something new and different and fun for me. Once I got used to the whole walk-and-look-at-the-same-time thing, it wasn't that bad! Oh, also Doom had to put it on the easy setting for me so I don't die every time someone attacks. ;_; haaha
And in addition to getting Feivel groomed a few days ago, I groomed Titus today!
No more scruffy face

Both of them before grooming

Thing's I've accomplished so far this spring break...

Okay so I'm halfway through spring break... what have I to show for it?!
  • Worked on my painting some more, I'd say I'm about 1/3 of the way there... It's taking longer than I expected! :O

The whole canvas!

  • Just got Feivel all groomed and bathed, he smells good now and isn't all greasy/gross/matted. Yay!

Do I haaaaave to go back to school next week? :( lol At least I should be starting some real research after the break! Hopefully I'll have exciting things to say about that. But for now I shall continue my break!

Babble Scrabble Dabble Yabble

So last night Doom and a couple of our friends, Chickadee and her boyfriend Orangutan. Justin bought me Hazelnut Baileys, the first alcohol I've enjoyed since being 21. I luuuuurv hazelnut... the alcohol part was nasty but oh well ;)
Then today I went to school, wrote a paper, submitted it, came home... aaaand I got hooked on painting. I just couldn't stop. Its nowhere near being finished but I'm pleased with the progress I made. When Doom came home he was feeling down cause he had a shitty day at work so we went to the movies and saw Burt Wonderstone, which was entertaining (I like Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey, I must admit). When we got home I took Titus for a jog, then started painting again. I had all kinds of intentions on doing some studying today, I really did :( Tomorrow I shall though. This post had no specific point to it really, twas just an excuse to babble while I do laundry, and submit pics of my painting so far.
I know this needs some work still

Adding progressively distant objects is HARD 0_0

Feiboo! :) I'm happy with he came out.

Hello old friend (me and my paintbrush)

Could it be? Munster picked up a paintbrush? Why yes, yes I did. I've had a big ol 24x30 inch canvas for about a year now and I finally decided to do something with it. It's such a daunting size however that I found myself over thinking what I wanted to paint! I finally settled on a subject: my dogs, in a natural landscape. At first I wanted to be ambitious, with mountains and streams and trees and and and... But again, its such a large canvas that I was afraid to plan out such a complex thing. So today, I buckled down, picked out a couple of refs and sketched it out, freehand, on the canvas. Of course, at some points I wanted to cry, I'm so danged clumsy with acrylics. But I left on a positive note, painting some plants in the foreground. I need to tackle this one section at a time, rather than doing 'layers' like watercolors.
Blurry pic--bleh.

Now I'm fighting the guilt I have over spending the afternoon painting rather than studying! >_< aaah, you can never win.

Sculpting Ideas for my restless hands!

Although painting is my main love, every once in a while I get the itch to pick up some sculpey and make something, but everytime I make something I think "Now what the heck am I gonna do with this?" I can't just have random sculptures hanging around, clogging up my tiny rooms! So I decided to browse teh internet for some inspiration on functional ideas.
Cake toppers ;)
Jackalope jewelry holder
Pendants, of course.
Light switch covers
Chess pieces (not that I play chess ever, but maybe I would if I made my own set!)
Anyone got any other ideas?

My 2013 project!

I've finally given myself a project for this upcoming year, and its a blog called Seasons of Lyor! Instead of another calendar project (which I did consider) I wanted to do something different. Basically I'll just write stories for some characters, forcing myself to illustrate and stick with it(atleast thats what I hope is going to happen.)
Remember these guys? Yep, they're the stars of these tales.
Here is some of what I've started for it:

Electricity pouring through me

Yeah, I went ahead and dove right into my acrylic paints again... Seems I'm bent on giving myself a headache! Large areas of blended colors are nearly impossible to create with acrylics, unlike watercolors! I still couldn't get the sky to look quite right, but oh well. I am pleased with the basic composition of my newest painting, though the details are lacking in some places. I might go back and work on it more later, but for now I shall consider it FINISHED.
Crappy quality picture, it's too big too fit in the scanner. :( 11x14in.
WIP pics:

close up!

Other than painting, I'm in a weird mood lately. Introverted sometimes, other times I enjoy time with my family. I love the holidays, and I blame the nonstop pace of the semester for making it so hard for me to adjust!

Mojo (Warning: Boobs)

Guess I've got my mojo back for now! And who would've guessed it would be acrylics that did it?! I spent today painting this little guy:
I was excited when I realized it was the right size to be scanned! Which is fantastic because all I could get was glare or miscoloration when I tried to get a picture of it.
Here are the work in progress pics:

I am indeed loving this new art setup my dad got me... even though I was a skeptic at first.
Now, as far as the painting I 'ruined', maybe I didn't ruin it but its certainly not what I intended to create. It is definitely different from what I normally create though so I'll share:
"And I've turned into this smiling, snarling monster, As I watch the walls descend, As I watch the walls descend like stars." Rocket Collecting, Milla Jovovich
Looks like I need some practice with watercolors!
